Alternative Uses

The OFDA technology was originally designed for sheep wool measurement but its unique advantages have lead to other fibre industries using OFDAs as well.

Cashmere

Cashmere is very similar to ultra fine wool in many ways so OFDA measurement was a natural fit.  When pricing of cashmere can largely vary with a single micron of diameter difference OFDA gives a trusted result that can be verified on both sides of a trade.

From Mongolia and China to Italy, the OFDA2000 has become the standard for verifying cashmere micron.

Hemp, Flax, Linen

The OFDA is fast becoming a go to instrument for the measurement of diameter and length of hemp fibres.  We are working with the relevant bodies all over the world to form test methods to create a standard that can be used with the OFDA.

Diameter measurement works great in either the clean snippet mode or fibreglass slide mode.

Depending on how processed the fibres are, if they are in sliver form they can be used with the OFDA4000 to give a length distribution.

Mohair, Alpaca & Other Wools

Given their similar properties to sheep wool, these fibres work well with all measurement modes the OFDA instruments offer.

Cellulose, Viscose

The OFDA is well suited to the wide array of cellulose fibres that are being developed in the world.

Non Woven

Depending on density, single and multi layer non wovens can be measured for diameter measurement.  It is also possible to cut or process the samples in such a way to provide a diameter measurement of high density samples.

Others

The OFDA technology can work with most fibre types.  From synthetics to silk, steel wires plus many more.  Get in touch for free sample testing to see how the OFDA technology can work for you.
